Ekos Festival

Web design and development of online contests

Web for online contests

El Diario Vasco organizes every year the Ekos Festival. An online social economy contest aimed at students and the general public, in groups or individually. The aim of this online contest is to promote creativity and people’s participation in social issues that concern us all.

To manage the Ekos Festival online contest, they needed a web platform so that participants could register and submit their work quickly and easily.

In addition, to achieve total transparency in the management of voting, it was essential to implement a transparent and secure voting system that would allow both the public and a specialized jury to evaluate the works submitted. So, with all these needs well defined, we designed and developed an online contest web platform adapted to the objectives and characteristics of the project.

Development of a web platform for online contests

Our goal: To develop a web platform to manage all phases of the online contest with total transparency and security.

Registration and submission of projects

In order for the entire contest to run with total transparency, it was necessary to define very precisely each stage of the Festival Ekos online contest.

People who wanted to participate in the contest had to upload their photos or videos directly from the platform. We made sure that this process was as simple and easy as possible by implementing a form with a series of fields to be filled in, such as category, modality, theme, project title, personal data, etc. This information was essential to then distribute the projects in their corresponding category for subsequent voting.

Once the voting was done, people who wanted to attend the final event in person could do so by registering in another specific form. In this way, the organizers had total control over the management of the attendees.

Public voting system

The voting process is the most delicate in any contest, and even more so in an online contest. This voting system consists of two parts: popular vote and specialized jury.

Once the deadline for uploading entries is over, the voting phase begins, where anyone can register to vote for the different projects. Each user is entitled to three votes, assigned to different works, and can see the list of selected works. They simply have to add their email address and confirm their vote through a link that arrives in the inbox of the email they have added, so we guarantee the authenticity of the process and avoid errors and fraud.

The specialized jury, on the other hand, has a private area where they can access only the works assigned to each member and score in various categories (such as creativity, originality, etc.), each with a specific weight in the final evaluation.

Project management panel

The administration panel was developed in WordPress to provide the organizers of the online contest with a user-friendly tool to easily manage all the stages of the contest.

From this panel, it is possible to download all the submitted entries with all the important information and data associated with each project. In addition, it is possible to access a complete record of the public votes and the evaluations made by the specialized jury, in order to follow the entire voting process in detail.

The organizers can use the panel to manage the different phases of the Ekos Festival contest: opening of registrations, control of users registered for the on-site closing event, final voting, etc.

Ekos Festival: A success in participation

Thanks to the high participation of both the general public and students, the Ekos Festival has been a great success.

They have demonstrated once again that creativity and social commitment can be perfectly combined to generate a positive impact on society, and has served as a platform to give visibility to a multitude of innovative ideas.

We are very grateful to Diario Vasco for involving us in this great project.
